As I understand the process is fairly straightforward - yeast picks up dna from the environment, so the process involves creating a dna strain which includes both the intended change and a marker change, like resistance to something that would normally kill the yeast. Then introduce the dna to the yeast and introduce the poison which will kill the yeast that didn’t pick up the dna.

Anyway, that’s what I seem to remember from synth bio course from years ago, I might have misunderstood tho.

I have actually wondered why this isn’t a thing. You can order a yeast 2.0 sample from a supplier and the relevant DNA strand from a DNA printing company, multiply the DNA and introduce it to the yeast and you’re game.

No, it’s still lacking a few features like CMYK color spaces. The UX issues are those of polish: the feature works if you know exactly how to use it, but a lot of times the workflows are neither intuitive for novices or efficient for proficient users. The team clearly has accepted this too.

I have engineered a solution for exactly this, believe it or not.

The shower system consists of carbon doped ferrous material coated with a zinc passivation agent. There is a flow control subsystem made of a Cu-Zn alloy which also causes aerosolization of the hydrogen-oxygen payload. The hydrogen-oxygen mixture is pre-processed in a large volume nitrogen container, and precipitated down to the shower system using a combination of thermal effects and manipulation of ambient pressure.

Works really well, only limitation is the amount of precipitate available.

In other words, it’s a metal rain bucket with a faucet.
