On that note, I was also going to mention the movie Cyborg because there’s a director’s cut called Slinger that makes it clear that JVCD did miracle work salvaging it for the theatrical cut of Cyborg lol.

Dunno if it counts but I’m a sucker for Jean Claude van Damme movies. And the only others I can think of off the top of my head are a couple of Albert Pyuun movies called Omega Doom and Knights, really bad sci-fi flicks. I actually need to save this thread for future watching material.

Sounds like I’m going to have to get hold of this book. Both Superman and Lois are two of my all time favourites and this sounds great. I’m throw in another random fact. Pretty sure he only got his ability to fly during the running of the Fleischer cartoons. Originally he could “leap tall buildings in a single bound”. Then somewhere along the line in the cartoons, they just found it more convenient if he could actually fly to take on some threats.

Yeah, every time I see people saying that they like the amount of users now just makes me think “hmmm must be nice that all of your particular niches and tastes are accounted for”. It’s pretty silly to be so anti growth for this place anyway. Even on Reddit, you literally have a choice to take part in the bigger ‘default’ subs or find a smaller one if that suits you. And I like choice.

This place still has a long way to go IMO. I’m starting to resort to lurking chat / ask style communities more just for something to do around here and even there, it’s not quite as engaging or active as it should be. As a humble user, sometimes I don’t have something particular in mind that I want to see. Sometimes I just want to bed rot and scroll and read people’s stories and discussions, maybe give my two cents if I feel so inclined. And there isn’t really that here yet because once you’ve checked AskLemmy or whatever, you’ve already seen 90% of the content for the next week.

First time I’ve ever read of this interpretation and that’s super fucking cool.

Contemplating just giving up on the public system here for any sort of real answers or solutions. But I’ll see.

For personal reasons, I’m not keen on the idea of self diagnosing anything. But what I will allow myself to do is lurk in spaces where I feel like I identify with a lot of people or things they go through. And learn.

So honestly feeling pretty low for a number of reasons right now. But like, what’s new? Lol. And while the economy is shit, at least I’m pretty far away from any signs of war or far right politicians wiping their asses with the constitution where I am.

Recently did another Plants vs. Zombies run, so I’m gonna throw this one into the mix here.

Wake me up when something gets done about it other than a fine that amounts to about half a day’s profit for them.

Still on the long, slow road to some sort of diagnosis. Going through the government system and it’s been hair pulling to say the least. But on Monday I’m going back in to see the psychiatric nursing sister. And apparently that’s going to literally just be so that she can refer me to the main government psychiatrist for this region.

And who knows how it’ll take from that point because this Monday appointment is a full month since my last appointment there. Haven’t had any sort of prognosis yet but when the nurses were taking my blood, even though they were speaking Xhosa, I picked up the word “autism” again and again. So we’ll see but I’m pretty sure I’m going to be joining the ranks of late dx adults and honestly it all seems so obvious to me now.

This waiting and waiting and waiting for things that could be done over the phone or email sucks though. It’s like when you have something planned for 14:00, which of course means that you can’t do anything else constructive for the entire day before that because reasons. Expect this thing that’s planned is at some undetermined date in the future and instead of wasting the day, it’s days and weeks and months.

I haven’t played GTA 5 (or any of the 2D games apart from the GBA release tbh) but as far as dark and gritty goes, I’d say that GTA 4 fills that role for the 3D games, especially the GTA 4 DLC The Lost and Damned. Wouldn’t call them cyberpunk though.

I look forward to all of the Fable ‘fans’ coming out of the woodwork to complain that the female characters and designs don’t look like porcelain anime supermodels. It’s going to be X-Men '97 all over again with a bunch of people that clearly weren’t ever fans of the original complaining about their “childhoods being ruined.”

I suggest that any and all one handed Gamers™ first take a look at the original character designs before opening their stupid mouths and complaining about the wOkE agENdA making characters uglier.

Probably DC Comics. And it depends what my role in this universe would be. But knowing my luck I’d just be a random civilian that gets wiped out during the latest rampage by Atomic Skull or something. But at least everything gets reset every few years, so that I could live again to be super villain fodder another day.

I definitely understand the aversion to algorithms because just look at what platforms like Facebook, Twitter or even Reddit these days do with them. In the wrong hands, it’s deceptive and dodgy as fuck.

But I wouldn’t be opposed to an algorithm that you can tailor yourself. And I don’t mean Bluesky style ‘tailoring’, I mean give us a list of interests and categories to toggle that then have more weight in the feed. So for example, if you like metal, you would then see more metal related stuff in your feed and not have it downed out by Taylor Swift and Kanye West because upvotes.

And something I picked up from Facebook (even though it doesn’t work for shit on Facebook because their algorithm is mentally handicapped) is being able to ‘favourite’ something. And by doing that, not just pinning it to the top of the list of communities but actually making it appear in your feed more whether the upvotes are a high amount or not.

There was also a way to build Infinity yourself using your own developer key from Reddit, not sure if that’s still an option though. But that dev was very quick with a work around and Infinity users are barely affected by the API thing.

It’s probably about how all of the right wing people and their alt right movements over the last decade have been a complete load of bullshit spread by liars and hypocrites. Because they’ve been crying and crying about ‘freedom’ all this time and now that people’s freedom is actually actively being violated, suddenly they don’t have the same kind of energy. They’ve been preaching ‘free speech’ but they’re silent when a protester gets arrested and threatened with deportation for speaking. Even the fucking conspiracy theory crowd took one look at Project 2025 and went “doesn’t look like anything to me.”

So it’s probably just an observation that all of this madness over the last decade has been instigated by liars and supported and spread by liars. And that it’s always actually just been about hate all along. A lot of us knew that already but now it’s at the point where anyone denying it just looks willingly fucking stupid.

That women’s stuff community that you helped promote already has some jackass commenting about it being “pointlessly gendered”. Meanwhile ‘Dull Gentleman’s Club’ doesn’t get the same treatment for some strange reason, I wonder why. Honestly this is one case where I hope the moderators do a little power tripping so that these kinds of communities can actually take off without the usual suspects dropping by to shit on them.
