My understanding is that AOSP is still and will continue to be a thing. That’s Android. What Google has done though is put more and more new capabilities into Play Services, which are not open, rather than AOSP.

Man I love croissants, they must be one of my top 5 things to eat. Fresh ones don’t really need anything at all. They’re already buttery. These mango croissants look amazing.

They make a great side for almost anything too. With eggs? Hell yes. With a glass of wine? Duh. Add them to an Irish breakfast with black pudding? Totally works. Cold, on a chicken waldorf sandwich? Of course. With a dollop of ice cream or crème fraîche? If only I could be so lucky.

There’s really no wrong way to enjoy a croissant, unless you’re putting something totally inedible like drain cleaner with it. There are some foods I would never add, like spray cheese or olives, but that’s really just personal preference.

The English plural of alumnus is alumni. Yes of course it’s retained from Latin. But it’s also become a word in the English dictionary. We actively use that form in English written and spoken communication. It’s been absorbed into the language. I’ve never once heard “alumnuses”.

No, we generally don’t use the “i” ending on new words, but we could. There’s no rule against it.

I don’t disagree with you. But don’t you think there’s a component of it that’s like, “Hey I want to both 1) release a game and 2) put food on table”? Since 99% of players are on Windows, actually doing both kind of necessitates building for Windows first.

As Linux gamers I think we should keep going in the direction we’ve been and making it easier and easier for devs to port to Linux or run their games through Proton and so forth. It’s been amazing and my time as a player has been so good in the last couple years. If we keep showing that, more players will come over and the userbase will grow. I’ve heard from plenty of others who have ditched Windows, because gaming was their last holdout.

The big AAA publishers aren’t struggling for basic needs. We can make demands of them. But the small inside devs? Help 'em out where you can.

I know! S2 is my most anticipated game right now so part of me would love to jump in as early as possible. But I had the same experience of playing the original Subnautica with almost no prior knowledge and I’m so happy I did.

I’m no expert and I’ve been out of the game for a while, but as I recall the platforms are all quite different. Maybe it’s common now to only allow messages between matches.

But anyway, I was referring more to the trolls and harassers that need to be banned entirely, not just blocked/ignored by individuals. These people will put nasty inappropriate stuff as their profile pics in the first place, and create new accounts just to pester others.

I think the problem there is moderation. Who is going to do the work of blocking/banning 1000 creepy messages and dick pics per minute on an open platform?

Let’s be honest, what these apps are going to do is boost user engagement (read: waste your fucking time) by pulling you into conversations with AI chatbots. The longer you’re there, the more advertisements they can feed you. It’s going to be harder and harder to find a real person, because investors don’t benefit from that.
