That said, 5.56 is a round I’d be switching off of for everyone else. It’s ubiquitous, but the military is switching away from it due to body armor resistance to 5.56. Now .308 and 300 black out… most of the gun nuts all agree that the best bugout bag gun is an FN-FAL. Excellent stopping power, highly accurate, controllable, and has some great built-in features that make it perfect for survival on the front lines.

I actually think regulation is how we got them, but not in a known bad way. Originally car headlights had little to no standards, but eventually people realized they’re important to safety and so testing started happening to ensure that headlights met a minimum safety rating. The problem is that the testing was done from the drivers seat, and based on light projection in front of the vehicle rather than taking into account other humans looking toward it. I’ve been a big proponent of LED lights that dim when stopped or slowing, and even halogen/ultra dim lights for city driving, and keeping LEDs for brights. LEDs have really made a lot of brights basically useless, but the brightness, and harshness of color temperature is absolutely detrimental to other drivers.

I was thinking the same thing. In all the threads about it. It just seemed oddly suspicious and not typical of what the digital privacy community has typically believed… I mean, I’m also not going to homogenize a community like that though and Proton has been a mainstay.

I don’t disagree with some of your points, but I also don’t believe that Reddit really ever said it was a free speech platform. Twitter has for sure (because of Elon), but Reddit has really been a “front page of the internet” believer. They felt more like an aggregator and newspaper. Which definitely has a lot of censoring and opinion blocking in the world of print too. I mean, remember when they got rid of jailbait or space dicks, was that a speech problem? Some felt it was, but it was definitely something we all realized was wrong and that a private company tries to protect its “brand.” Obviously being on Lemmy and leaving after the API change means I didn’t agree with them and I found another place that aligned more with my values.

You holding that sign up though is legal, however only on public property, and only if you’re taking up less than half of the sidewalk and not in the path of traffic. You also cannot use an amplified device (unless you’ve filled out the permit) and your sign cannot be on any wood or metal sticks. If you step onto private property you can be asked to leave or removed. That last one is also something that just like a website isn’t restricting your right to free speech, just that a specific building/business/owner doesn’t want to be in support of it.

In the end, why are we all still talking about Reddit. This site definitely has users that love going back to their crazy ex to fuck and then realizing it’s still crazy like as if it would change.

If we’re talking about the Unpopular opinion subreddit (what the image is from). They also had President, presidency, Trump, and spez. They’re just big things that end up with a lot of garbage. A sub about unpopular opinions filled with the same “Donald Trump bad” becomes boring and annoying.

If we’re talking about the Lemmy Shitpost community then they specifically call out no derogatory language towards anyone’s Race, gender, or religion. Is that trampling your civil liberties?

Your rights as a person and citizen don’t magically extend everywhere. Otherwise you turn into a sovereign citizen. This weird obsession on Lemmy with this idea you should be able to say whatever you want online anywhere is fucking stupid and weird. A website is like another business or home (or even a newspaper… which at times has also pulled ideas they don’t agree with). You’re showing up to it. If you don’t like the rules in one place, go to another (or read a different paper). Or make your own.

Is this really so bad? I mean… I get it. When you’re trying to moderate something with thousands of posts, and a ton start coming in that are low effort/bot posts saying things like “unpopular opinion: I support Luigi” or “unpopular opinion: I am glad Biden won’t be president” it makes sense. Those are just such constant topics with such a wide range of ideals. Whereas an unpopular opinion they might want to spur conversation would be “unpopular opinion: I don’t mind my socks being damp or wet” otherwise it’s just constant shitposts.

Plus, Reddit isn’t the (US) government. Your expectation of free speech should be null.

I would say that disabled and chronic illness are not the same. I have a friend with MS. He literally can’t work out/walk. I don’t expect him to, but he still eats healthy and of course I’ll fight for him to get access to free care.

I have another friend who is happy to go out with my wife and walk around shopping for hours on end. However when someone asks her to do something around the house she complains about her chronic illness, and she complains about how her stomach is upset even though she doesn’t eat well. She does have an illness that I recognize is real, however she has capacity to help her self in some areas in small ways that eventually add up to something bigger.

There’s no doubt that the CEO killer didn’t have a real issue that was at times debilitating, but he also seemed to go out and hike, work out and eat rather healthy when it wasn’t as severe and he could manage. Exercise and healthy eating could solve a number of contributing/compounding factors for people with chronic illness but they have to take that step.

Also, the biggest thing to me is that the guy at least tried to not have those problems and did his best to stay active and eat healthy. The people I know with chronic conditions don’t also help themselves even after I’ve tried helping them. I get that not everyone has that capacity, but most aren’t so debilitated that they couldn’t go for a jog or low impact work out and eat healthier.

Still doesn’t mean I don’t want them to go into debt for healthcare they should have a right to.

It’s probably not anything that recently changed. Economies are like rubber bands. They can stretch and run for a while in a deficit or without having proper upside cash flow while in a wartime economy, but eventually all of that has to come back. Russia has just had compounding economic problems (because they’re stupid) and now the hurting is starting to add up.

I’m pulling all of this from memory, so YMMV… Victoria was a paid person from Reddit who worked on the AMA subreddit only. Her job was to basically go around and get celebrities and other interesting people to do AMAs and then would help schedule them and coordinate the whole thing. In some cases even helping to type out answers. If I’m recalling correctly Reddit just got too corporate and decided to terminate her out of the blue. The community fought back, but nothing big ever changed or happened. After she went away AMA basically turned into a shitshow of no one actually doing anything. She was legitimately a powerful tool at Reddit but they just got rid of her.

For a lot of the OGs on Reddit it got worse after the whole AMA Victoria thing. That was really when Reddit went downhill. Before that Reddit was amazing with AMAs that kept you refreshing constantly to be live in the chat, and posts that were funny and discussion that felt a bit more meaningful.

Good thing because Tim Apple was already CEO of another company.

I think the audio detail was so high because it helped to sell the realism of the game. Go back and play those early games and they don’t look nearly as good as my brain remembers, but the audio helped to fill in the lack of gravel looking texture and leaves tussling sounds in bushes that had two twigs on them.
