I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Generally I’ve had a good experience on Lemmy except for one particular user recently. But, I know there are shitty people on here and they can totally wreck your whole mood with their toxic behavior.

The best thing to do is to gather evidence. Take screenshots of the harassment you’ve faced. Screenshots are best in case the other party decides to delete their comments and you can’t prove anything later. Screenshots remain.

Then you contact the instance admins for the instance where the user was created, and you provide them with the evidence. They should be able to block them at the IP address level at least so they can’t create another account there.

However, the other party can always use VPNs to change IP addresses or create accounts on other instances. In the latter case, keep contacting the other instance admins with your evidence and they will help you.

Let’s hope they just stop once they’re banned for good.

Yeah, same. I tried getting people to switch, but it was like pulling teeth. It’s even worse now, even with all the Meta Zuckerberg Trump bullshit and the obvious privacy problems.

The circles feature was awesome. Could post stuff for specific groups of people. Sometimes your posts aren’t for all your friends to see.

At first Diaspora seemed to propose a good alternative to Facebook ang G+. It has “aspects” which work similarly to circles. And the interface is similar to Facebook’s. However, it didn’t take off as much as anyone would’ve expected.

Now there’s also Friendica which closely resembles Facebook, but it appears limited in functionality. It looks more like a Facebook-UI to the fediverse, like Mastodon is a Twitter-UI to the fediverse. It’s missing the whole “circles/aspects” feature, and we still don’t have the groups feature either, which I think is very useful and much appreciated by Facebook users.

EDIT: Actually I just double checked and it does have circles actually.

This is probably controversial, but Google Plus was better than Facebook in every way.

I think what they’re implying is that this kind of thing doesn’t really happen in France. At least not at the rate it’s happening in the U.S. So they don’t really need to worry about not having cell phones.

To an extent it’s the same with Canada. We’re pretty lucky school shootings aren’t a common occurrence. What’s the worst that can happen here? The school runs out of maple syrup? (Of course I’m joking!)
