I knew WB’s HD-DVDs (remember those?) were a timebomb. I didn’t realize regular DVDs were, too.

I’ve always used Transmission, since there’s a Docker container I use that bakes in your VPN-of-choice & a killswitch.

That said, it looks like it hasn’t been updated in over a year… I wonder if there’s anything else out there that does the same thing as this. (EDIT: Yes. Google brings up plenty of choices.)

This is an EVEN BIGGER opportunity than AMD had with Intel to have a “Ryzen moment”.

With trash uplifts (5070 may not even beat the 4070Super) and blatantly swapping of the names of their GPUs (the 5080 is XX70-level hardware – at best)… Nvidia has effectively doubled the price of GPUs in a few short years.

If AMD decided to finally not just-follow-Nvidia, I would RUN to buy a $550-600 RX9070XT with RTX5080 performance.

Fuck off. $1,000 RTX5080 performance is twice what the $500 two-gens-old RTX3070 had. And also…

• The $599 RTX4070 Super had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $499 RTX2070 Super
• The $499 RTX3070 had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $379 GTX1070
• The $499 RTX2070 Super had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $329 GTX970
• The $379 GTX1070 had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $399 GTX770

The sad truth is that the vast majority of people WANT an algorithm to tell them what they like.

Mastodon requires you to actually have your own opinions going in, and follow material based on that.

There’s a transcoding bug in the Android TV version of the Jellyfin client where transcoding a video with 7.1 audio breaks playback. Even with a Pull Request out there that fixes it (by matching the behavior of other Jellyfin clients), the issue got closed as “not planned”. The continued suggestion continues to be “just force everything to play in stereo”.

I don’t have unlimited bandwidth, so plenty of my stuff gets transcoded in Plex. I can’t, in good, conscience, switch my friends & family (most of who use Android TV) over to Jellyfin.

I legitimately don’t understand why the U.S. isn’t the only locality where it shows up as “Gulf of America”.

Set the en-US string to “Gulf of America”. Leave literally every other region’s text string untouched from what it was 6 months ago.

When the next Democrat U.S. President gets sworn in and immediately Executive Orders it back to “Gulf of Mexico”, change the en-US string back to that.

This is all so stupid and melodramatic.

It was all about “fun” in the days of MySpace and Digg and early-Reddit. That damn cat wanted a damn cheeseburger and we all laughed about it.

Then it became all about politics. And people would go to any lengths to ensure that “their” politics “won” on social media. We went from people having fleets of alt accounts, to fleets of bots, to just having AI spread and upvote propaganda.

The thinly-veiled 75-100% price increases aren’t fun for those of us not constantly-touching-themselves over AI.

Such is the case with the “Southern Ocean” around Antarctica since the early 2000s, which is randomly recognized & not recognized by world nations.

Obama renamed Mt. McKinley to Denali by executive order. Trump is using executive order to rename it back.

Biden outlawed oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Trump used executive order to rename it so the Gulf of Mexico “doesn’t exist”. (EDIT: Actually the naming appears to be unrelated to this. The drilling ban was specifically reversed in a different executive order that reversed several Biden EOs)

It’s all questionable use of executive order. But which party is going to step up and say “the last guy did it, but our guy shouldn’t be able to ignore checks & balances anymore”?
