  • Although i think you’re right, you too where once a kid.

And. Tell me. What did you do with your money back then? Everything you bought was well thought out? You still use day to day everything you bought back then? Or where you just a child and did you buy candy, fireworks, some comics, that game console you sold 2 years later for not even half the price, that cheap rc car which broke after 1 day?

Its a slippery slope. Just because something doesn’t have value to you does not mean the same applies to someone else.

Stuff like this can give kids a certain social standing in the brutal world of the classroom. That’s something to consider also, group pressure, wanting to fit in. The need to be part of the group.

Allowance is a learning experience. My son did the same, for years bought only fortnite skins with his allowance. Like you i warned him against it. But i never forbid it. He’s 14 now and regrets it.

He doesn’t buy fortnite skins anymore. That’s the end goal, isn’t it? To learn and move on?

  • I was in the same boat. Then I decided that the 50x0 was a paper launch and the leaks told me that the 9070XT would lower or have the same performance as the 7900xtx.

Then the 7900xtx dropped in price, clearing the channel for the new gen.

    Then I bought that.

Ever since I’ve been wondering… Why didn’t I buy this thing earlier?

It’s more then fast enough. The RT performance is above the 3080.

Every 9070XT I can buy now is almost 200 euro more then what i payed for the 7900xtx.

What I learned? Buy previous gen in it’s “dying” weeks.

  • Following the same logic we should shit on every american because they elected trump. The majority of people don’t want war they get brainwashed and get caught into it.

We do already shit on every American. That has been covered. Thank Trump for that. Seen Tesla sales in the EU? That will never recover. never. I can’t see any EU airline order a Boeing ever again. Etc.

Just like with China, he made it very clear to the EU we must do things ourself and can not depend on any American product or service ever again. Americans are untrustworthy. That’s the lesson learned. Message recieved, loud and clear.

Did you hear Macron? Starner? VdLeyden? That defense fund will be spend in the EU. not in the US. And that defense fund is only the start. Everything will follow.

Very probably an EU cloud will emerge in a few years making the reliance on MS, Google, Amazon, Oracle a thing of the past. There is a lot of talk about this now in government agencies all over the EU. The USA is untrustworthy. We cant trust them anymore with our data.

We where friends, allies. Big spenders. But apparently that was all useless.

From a musk pov it’s 100% logical. Money.

Why? Win2k was quite stable. Stable enough to use it in warships.

Linux/Bsd is not free. When you use it in your company you want pro support. That support comes free with windows enterprise licenses. So the cost difference there is almost non existent. And, MS being M$, they would’ve sweetened the deal. A lot. Just think of the marketing worth of this deal for MS.

And lastly: Who is cheaper? A good linux admin or a windows guy?

So 90% of the stability at 50% of the cost. That’s not a bad deal.

  • AMD never used chips “more efficiently”. They hit gold with the RYZEN design but everything before since Athlon was horrible and more useful as a room heater. And before athlon it was even worse. The k6/k6-2 where funny little buggers extending the life of ziff7 but it lacked a lot of features and dont get me started about their dx4/5 stuff which frequently died in spectacular manners.

Ryzen works because of chiplets and the stacking of the cache. Add some very clever stuff in the pipeline which I don’t presume to understand and the magic is complete. AMD is beating intel at it’s own game: it’s Ticks and tocks are way better and most important : executable. And that is something Intel hasn’t been able to really do for several years. It only now seems to be returning.

And lets not forget the usb problems with ryzen 2/3 and the memory compatibility woes of ryzen’s past and some say: present. Ryzen is good but its not “clean”.

In GPU design AMD clearly does the same but executes worse then nvidia. 9070 cant even match its own predecessor, 7900xtx is again a room heater and is anything but efficient. And lets not talk about what came before. 6xxx series where good enough but troublesome for some and radeon 7 was a complete a shitfest.

Now, with 90 70 AMD once again, for the umpteenth time, promises that the generation after will fix all its woes. That that can compete with Nvidia.

Trouble is, they’ve been saying that for over a decade.

Intel is the one looking at GPU design differently. The only question is: will they continue or axe the division now gelsinger is gone. which would be monunentally stupid but if we can count on 1 thing then its the horrible shortsightness of corporate America. Especially when wall street is involved. And with intel, wall street is heavily involved. Vultures are circling.

China: bad. X/Musk directly and openly interferes in UK and GER politics : move along, nothing to see.

Its such a bullshit argument. Don’t be the pot blaming the kettle.

We should ban ALL socials. All. Everything becomes an echochamber after 1-2 years filled with bots, algorithms and Ai. Nothing is trustworthy anymore.

Ok, so Bytedance does exactly what Microsoft, Google and Apple do. Got it.

All 3 can and do run arbitrary code on their platforms. All three share your data with third parties. All three encrypt stuff in their codebase and especially google tries it’s hardest to break networking standards just to obfuscate what their code is doing.
