  • I don’t think the comment is suggesting they criticize Protestantism. I think they are suggesting that US Catholics faith no longer aligns with the Vatican and that it’s diverged to the point that in no longer even represents the idea of Christianity at large (Protestants) and more just some new thing (presumably where people pretend to read the Bible and just ignore all the commandments).

  • Just a small note for clarity, but the US is not demanding a tariff from China. The US is imposing a tariff on goods from China, and US citizens are the ones that pay that. It’s not like Trump is asking China to fork over a bunch of money. He’s telling Americans that if they want Chinese goods they are going to have to pay even more. In theory, this would cause Americans to buy less of these goods because essentially they can’t afford them, and therefore China suffers, but money coming from the US is probably not going to affect China the way that increased tariffs will affect Americans.

  • More like, if my pants are being made by slave labor no matter what, might as well spend less on them. I don’t shop at SHEIN, but if you tell someone there’s no difference between shopping at a department store and SHEIN, they might as well save a few bucks by shopping at SHEIN. Admittedly, I don’t know that there is a difference, and I only clothes shop where I do for practical reasons, not ethical ones. If I knew I could get the same quality for a quarter of the price and I had no reason to think it translated to worse working conditions, I would do so.

  • I really don’t think that’s an accurate assessment of the algorithm, but seeing as I am not privy to it, and I imagine you’re not either, I’m not really sure that’s a point worth discussing.

It’s certainly easier for women to get matches on tinder, but not really sure how that’s related. I didn’t specify the sex or sexual orientation of the couples I was referring to. And even for heterosexual couples, it does mean a man found a wife through tinder, so it being easier to get matches as a woman does not mean that men don’t get matches, it’s kinda a necessary step in the women getting matches thing.

  • Honestly, the money makes it weirder imho. I think it’s valid not to want someone to take a compliment the wrong way so you say it as you’re leaving or in a context where it’s clear you don’t want anything from them, but being so extra about it is weird imho. Like, sure he didn’t leave a number, but if he just casually complimented her that probably would have been fine and not weird at all. I imagine the note was an excuse to add the money, and he said open later to avoid her feeling weird about the money. It’s his money he can ostensibly do what he likes with it, but I would feel at least a bit creeped out if someone randomly gave me money because they liked my appearance.

I hate articles that are essentially “we turned a tweet into an essay”, but I don’t think the takeaway is that money makes things less creepy.

  • You clearly just don’t like the policy, but all of your points have responses.

    1. tax more. Literally everyone on the left agrees with that
    2. More money in the economy is more opportunity to tax. People that need this benefit will be most likely to actually spend their money on good and services. These programs will also give homes and stability to people so that they can get out of cycles that impede their upward mobility and cause them to continue to depend on benefits.
    3. it is not irrelevant because this would not be a check for billions being written overnight. There would be a roll out to ensure stability and work out issues with the market
    4. never said no penalties for defaulting and plenty of people with bad credit need housing and are being provided with it by the government anyways. Might as well not give that money to 3rd party landlords that drive up rents. Also, this is nothing like PPP, other than that the government is involved.
    5. the government would operate like any bank would. It would not allow a 500k loan for a house not worth 500k. You’re not guaranteed a number. That should have been clear based on my above comment that mentioned potentially upgrading to a different house when your income increases. Houses aren’t just more expensive because fha loans exist. And again, all of this would be in a market where investment properties aren’t really a thing.

If you don’t think the government should be involved in housing, you can just say that.

    1. the government has absurd levels of money
    2. it will literally earn the government money long term
    3. it’s not like it’ll happen overnight
    4. it’s not a grant it’s a loan. The loan would be for the entire amount. This is already basically in place in a different country.
    5. prices would not skyrocket because there would be virtually no rental market so if you wanted to sell you’re selling to someone who is going to occupy. Homes will not be investments the way they are currently seen. This will be a way for people currently in a position to only rent to start getting equity so they can have better opportunities in the future. Selling to upgrade will be done because a) you started earning more b) because you had a period with no payments and therefore were able to save c) originally purchased below your means. There will be inflation, but generally no one will be moving into a home for 500k and selling 2-3 years later for a million. There won’t be enough buyers once investors are mostly disincentivized/removed from the market

  • In my comment I explicitly stated that there is no need to stop new construction. I do not expect any area to absorb anything. I suggested construction will continue and “additionally” that some areas are being revitalized and will have different needs (rebuilding vs new homes). That’s just true.

I’m not expecting renting to just end. I know people who do not want to own any kind of property and prefer short term rentals. It’s not a sensible goal to force people into owning if they don’t want to.

What does it mean to not be able to afford home ownership? Do you mean they not have enough money for housing in the first place, or do you mean they can just rent? If option one, they are considered homeless and the state should provide housing, if option two, then yes, rent to own should be a real thing. First time home buyers loans exist and the project should be expanded. These are not novel proposals that I just made up. People have been suggesting them for quite a while.

  • The demand for housing isn’t being limited though. The demand for investment property has decreased to be replaced with demand for owned housing. You can still sell a new house. People are still buying houses. I agree with others that worse case, we can bolster development at the federal level, but that doesn’t seem like it will be necessary. Additionally, with declining birth rates and an increase in WFH jobs, less housing will be needed, and people are moving to areas where new construction is not as needed as they are moving into previously abandoned/vacant rural areas. So you won’t be seeing new housing developments there so much as rebuilding.

  • So you just responded for fun? You thought they were 100% accurate and you posted screenshots just to agree with them?

I did not assume everyone notices or remembers everything and even if I did how would that even relate to arrogance? I said it’s ok to be mistaken. You seem to be unable to process that. Really, good luck, because it seems like you’re going to continue to have a rough go of it.

  • Not that you asked for advice, but if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, I’d try role playing a scenario before ever actually doing it. Like she pretends she doesn’t want to, even though she does, and she gets to experience you saying bossy/dismissive things while she’s actively consenting. Consensual non-consent is a real thing, but people on both ends need to have a pretty good grasp of the situation. Plenty of people realize they’re not actually into a kink they thought they had once it becomes even just pretend real. The role playing phase (or ramp up phase depending on the kink) is sometimes helpful to people new to kink. Although it’s not the same as engaging in the kink, I’d recommend it as a first step almost universally.

The fact she was anti safe word is obviously a red flag, and I wouldn’t do anything with someone uninterested in safe words.
