  • Most OSes will let you do it but 2025.01.01.png could have issues compared to 2025-01-01.png. Plus I think it’s a little clearer what the file type actually is.

Its just a little pedantic thing I’ve picked up after years of being a sysadmin. In my mind slashes (/) are reserved for directory delimitation and the period (.) is to separate the file name from the file type. I also have a little bit longer of a list of “reserved” characters for other reasons (%, #, and {`}`)

Everyone should be in a state of self-improvement. But sometimes you do need to take a step back and realize that you are orders of magnitude harder on yourself than anyone (that you would want to be around) will be.

You said your friends and family think you’re fun and enjoy being around you. Do you think your friends and family are actually shitty people just stringing you along for the fun of it? Do you trust them in other aspects?

I was talking to a friend about this one time and he cut me off and just said “that’s hurtful man. Why would you say that about me?” and that really gave me some insight. Because I was telling myself “my friends are all fake”, but what my friends here is “i dont believe you are there for me”.

I actually did use “factoid” correctly here. According to the Cambridge dictionary the Definition is

    an interesting piece of information

And that’s exactly what I use it for. I’m not talking about debating economic policy on national television (but tbf, the ai summary probably does a better job than the talking heads haha) but just stupid little things you “”“debate”“” with your friends.

Some examples Ive used it for recently.

“Were the cars in mad max real cars” and heres the response

Yes, the vehicles in the Mad Max films, especially Fury Road, are based on real, modified cars, rather than CGI or camera effects, with over 150 real cars used in the filming of Fury Road. Here’s a more detailed look

And then it had some details about some of the big cars. And then it linked to articles like this one or this one

Or “how much does a da Vinci (surgery robot) cost?”, and heres it’s answer:

The cost of a da Vinci surgical robot typically ranges from $1.5 million to $2.5 million.

And then had some details of different models of da Vinci machines. But it also linked to this source and this source

And those are just two of the recent searches I have in my search history. For stupid factoids like that it’s really great. For anything more nuanced or complicated than that it falls apart.

And yeah it has incorrect information sometimes. But you know what else gets incorrect information? Me when I drunkenly skim the first article that pops up while my friends drunkenly yell over each other. So id say it washes out.

  • Damn that’s a shame. My team would also do this like once a month and the buffet we went to absolutely loved us. They would keep the party room open for us and prepare extra food the night before. Hell the owners came to some of the bigger meets too when they could.

Then someone drove a semi truck through the front of the building (nobody was hurt, it was overnight) and they never reopened :(

  • I’ve always viewed it as somewhere between “willfully oblivious”, “on board with the war”, and “his love of flight”.

Warner Von Braun built the V2 (among others) rocket for the Nazis, but he always claimed it was because of his love of space flight. And being German he was utilizing the resources he had available to him. Now, that was also while he was being shielded from the majority of questions by the US government so who knows what the real truth was. IMO I believe that he was driven by his desire to see space travel, and the rest of the “bad parts” (slave labour and building terror weapons for the Nazis) could be explained with just good ol fashion racism that was en vouge in the 30s-70s.
