I think you make some good points.

We have a old, self built Creality at work that is modded extensively and I love printing with it, but at home it just wont fly. The missus wants to turn the machine on, send over the G-code and pick up nice things later. There is no point trying to convince her to spend hours and hours learning input shaping, filament drying temperatures or the upsides/downsides of dual gear extruders.

People are pissed at Bambu, and rightfully so, but for home users where the crowd needing pleasing is not super tech-savvy, Bambu is just a great alternative.

I think we need to stop looking at it as Bambu fucking up 3D printing. They are massively increasing the reach of FDM for people who just want stuff to work without putting in the hours, while the rest of us can keep using whatever we want, be it OSS or not.
Hopefully with the increase in users, the selection of filaments and third party upgrades will increase too.

They are the only reason I was ever allowed to have a 3D printer in the house, which has already opened her up to letting me get a RatRig in the future. You know, because two printers are obviously twice as fast as one (!)

I’m gonna be honest and say I’m doing great man. For some weird reason, I always am.

It’s people like you, who do stuff out of passion and not monetary gain, that made the internet so great.

I try to stay out of American politics because I get that my views are probably skewed being in Europe, but I do see his approval ratings close to and sometimes above 50% on certain areas.

Without telling you what to do about it, I must admit it scares me to think that there are millions of people agreeing with what he’s doing. It feels like the US is a preassure cooker only just getting started, slowly inching towards a disastrous explosion.

As a Jellyfin-fanboy: you are right. Plex is easier to deal with out of the box.
Anything else would not make any sense for a paid service.

I’d say though, if you dedicate the time to set it up correctly, it is an equally good solution and it’s free.
If time is a factor in your life, then there is no shame in paying for something that just works. It’s why I have a Synology NAS and not a self-built Unraid or OMV server.

I run Jellyfin on Chromecast with Google TV every day, it works super well.

Install on the Jellyfin server and share that server (or just the IP with the Jellyfin port) with whoever you want. Now they have access to Jellyfin and Jellyfin only.
That’s how I set stuff up for friends and family.

Sure, a Weller station will probably last a lifetime even with serious usage, but I do maybe…. 20 total solder joint per year, so I couldn’t justify the price.

For me it is nothing. I don’t use the VPN and I own my domain, so I keep that if I ever change providers. The calendar works fine.

Ethically I have accepted that a comment was made by someone that should not have been shared, but I also accept that there is not a single company in the world where there are zero people with whom I agree 100%. The only difference is they don’t tweet about it. I am only fooling myself if I think changing providers will make any difference. Maybe the CEO of the next provider is a racist wifebeater…

Their service has been excellent, it’s European which I aim to support and their security is heavily scriutinzed as it’s open source. I sleep well giving them money for an great service.

I agree, but want to add Portainer. Compose in Portainer takes away the scary SLI/Terminal part.

I have a UPS and it’s connected to and communicate with my Synology, but the NUC could also benefit from a safe shutdown in case of power outages.

I am not on a VPN and experience it with my phone, iPad and desktop sadly.
