I really wasn’t trying to make a “let’s all shit on Matrix Resurrections” post here. I was hoping for more of a discussion about at what point something stops being cyberpunk. I guess I misjudged things…

Now that’s an interesting question… would the movie have been better if the Wachowskis weren’t involved at all? I’d argue the movie would’ve been better if none of the previous cast came back. The story should’ve been some new incarnation of The One (not Keanu Reeves) as the cycle repeats (the Architect talks about it being the 6th iteration). Or they could’ve even moved the world forward by having humans and machines working together but “oh no! the matrix is breaking/failing for some reason and we have to fix it!”

Unfortunately, we all know it was just WB saying “we need a cash cow… Wachowskis! Make us another!” and they had to scramble to come up with a story.

As for a description, I don’t know what to say. My goal is to make this a place to discuss cyberpunk as a sci-fi genre and not complaining about the current world turning into a cyberpunk dystopia. So the only news items I’ll post will be about upcoming movies/games, not whatever stupid thing Amazon did recently. But that’s just me, it’s not like I enforce it or anything. Lemmy as a whole is so small that any new content at all is preferable to a dead community.

How do you decide what to add? Is it automated or do you just add things anytime you stumble upon something new?

On the homepage, is the “latest watch”, “latest play”, “latest read” the latest thing you’ve actually watched, played, read or just the latest items added to the website?

If you’re new, I definitely recommend checking out https://lemmyverse.net/communities for finding new communities to subscribe to, rather than just browsing “all”. There are a lot of weird communities out there when you just browse “all”…

Have you tried using the Mullvad Browser then? It’s literally just the Tor Browser with the Tor parts removed. So it has all the security and anti-fingerprinting stuff but doesn’t connect to the Tor network.

Unless I misunderstood and you’re still connecting to the Tor network…

SpamBlocker on fdroid can block any numbers not saved to your address book. It can even make exceptions for any repeated numbers that aren’t in your contacts but call multiple times within some time period (5min, 30min, whatever). And it can temporarily whitelist a number you dialed recently in case you’re expecting a call-back.

It also has the ability to download spam phone number databases from the internet if you want, but to be honest, I tried setting up that feature and couldn’t figure it out. So while it can use a 3rd party, it isn’t required.
