I need to get a job as an op-ed writer. My current job expects me to not make egregious errors, or at the bare minimum apologize for and fix the ones I do make.

It’s more that he’s basically living in his own delusional world.

For example: In 2010 he said the UK should cut their military budget since the threat of “global communism” ended with the cold war. And he did not mean reduce the budget, he meant all of it. And argued that the army, air force, navy, etc. should all just be shut down. (source)

The top headline is from 2016 and he voted remain. But not because he heeded the warnings from either side(he calls them idiots), but because he thought the EU needed the UK’s “forceful presence” to prevent Germany taking control and start “bullying”(he’s claimed Germany has been “punishing” the UK through the EU).

He also thinks it’s a good idea to quote Kissinger about negotiations regarding Brexit.

Side-note: He has continously said that everyone should stop giving military aid to Ukraine. And has repeatedly called it a “border dispute”.

It is a border dispute. Ukraine says that they are a sovereign nation and Russia says all of Europe is their border.

Technically all wars are “border disputes.”

          WW2? Dispute over Germany’s borders.

American civil war? Dispute over whether the border between the Union and Confederate existed.

War in Afghanistan? Dispute over the borders of Taliban administration.

I do not follow these particular politics at all. Is it possible this person has seen the error of their ways and realized they made a mistake? Or are they knowingly swapping to whatever side is winning?

They’re a columnist, they’re just there to say something controversial and get people to buy the newspaper.
